In the Intermediate Salsa series, Tianne and Jack will teach a pattern combination with three distinct lead and follow variations each week. Intermediate classes emphasize proper technique, flowing movement. We also discuss how to be musical and how to unleash your creativity as a leader and follower using the monthly combinations.

Every class, we start with footwork, bodywork and/or individual dance moves so you can take basic steps and turn it into a cool solo steps and sticky hot messes. We build on basic concepts and pile on the salsa with scrumptious styling, accents and advanced variations. At a half-hour into class, we continue onto partnered dancing starting. We use basic figures of salsa and combine them into flowing and musical pattern runs. Each week of the month, we introduce advanced lead and follow variations. As always, there's time to practice, social dance and freestyle at the end.

PREREQUISITES: Dancers taking our classes will benefit the most from our classes if they have are familiar with leading/following these figures: (1) right travelling turns, (2) left travelling turns, (3) cross-body leads, (4) reverse cross-body leads, (5) catwalks, (6) right side passes, (7) baskets, (8) back-spot turns. We teach these figures over a 5-month rotation in our Novice classes.

SHOES REQUIRED: Dance shoes are required for all students. You may wear salsa shoes, latin ballroom shoes, jazz shoes (recommended), dance sneakers, or foot thongs. We will ask you to dance in socks if you do not have appropriate footwear.

As always, no partner necessary.

In the December Intermediate Salsa series, Tianne and Jack will continue teaching the November etude: a half-basket, a cross-body lead with follower's left turn, a cross-body lead with follower's right turn, and cross-body lead with leader's left-turn.

Please note, we will not have class on Christmas Sunday (12/25).

In the November Intermediate Salsa series, Tianne and Jack will discuss special topics are rarely addressed in most studio classes, and never taught in club classes.

  • 11/6 - We focus on engaging the abs and the core and being aware of our posture as we learn this month's sequence of figure.

  • 11/13 - An introduction to sexy salsa shoulders, arms, and hands led by Jack and special guest Jenessa Peterson. Tianne will performing a swing piece with a drag king at Dancing with the Drag Stars at Ruby Skye.

  • 11/20 - Class at 4:30pm - An introduction to turning faster and dancing tighter led by Jack. We'll teaching technique to help you turn with stability and speed while moving faster over the dance floor. This class is scheduled for 3pm because the San Francisco Salsa Congress is happening that weekend. Tianne will be performing two enchanting new pieces with her performing parter Ricardo Tellez of RicaSalsa.

  • 11/27 - Thanksgiving weekend. Class at Regular times.

Sexy legs and feet in Salsa is result of training your body to dance from the ground up. In this special two-hour class, Tianne and Jack reveal their secrets to connect to the floor from your toes to your hips. Not only will you look great, you'll also feel more agile and stable than you can image.

In the first hour, technique drills will show you the elements of a graceful and powerful salsa style. We'll teach you how to

  • Keep turns and spins tight and controlled
  • Make even your basic step sexy by dancing on a narrow slot
  • Add dynamism to your moves by staying on the balls of your feet
  • Control the size of your strides and break-steps

In the second hour, we mix-and-match some salsa patterns selected specifically to highlight the basic technique, so that you can work them into your social dancing as soon as possible.
